5/4/10

At one time, record release dates were more highly anticipated than tweets from Justin Bieber.  I still remember (fondly) my grandmother driving me to the local Turtle's Records to get In Utero on 9/13/93 and (less fondly) Vs. on 10/19/93.  I recall (ambivalently) leaving school at lunch on 10/24/95 to buy Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and then subsequently skipping chemistry and whatever-class-came-after-chemistry to listen.

In the present day, record release days are essentially meaningless.  5/4/10, in another time, would have been a momentous occasion: new albums from New Pornographers, Flying Lotus, The Hold Steady, and (FP favourites) Broken Social Scene.  Times have changed.  We are now all able to listen to the new Hold Steady album Heaven is Whenever and the new Broken Social Scene album Forgiveness Rock Record thanks to National Public Radio.  Stream away!
